“The only person you should try to be better than, is the person you were yesterday”
Recently, on my summer trip home to Canada to visit with family, I was able to take some time for myself and my photography. Professional-development and reflection is very important. It allows you to re-focus and remember why you do what you do. It gives you improved focus and motivation. With having two very energetic, all-sports, boys, it was great to be able to carve out a few hours to focus on my craft and myself.
The best part was being able to get together with another photographer friend, do promo shots for each other and just talk about our businesses’ and our future goals. Too often we are in competition with one another, and this is particularly true for women. It was great to come together and openly share and grow from one another. We need to empower each other as then great things can happen. This is a friend that I actually grew up with in our small rural town and then she ventured off to Australia and studied photography there. We reconnected years ago when I was just getting into photography and she was a blessing in that she took the time to teach me things and even took me out with my sister and her family as our models and gave me hands on experience. I am forever thankful for this. Too many times people are too quick to close the door on helping you as they fear you as competition. They forget that someone had to teach them… And with the nature of photography, being a profession where one works independently and alone for the most part, it is all that more important to take time to connect and share with others so that you know the worth and contribution you have on the industry.
So thank you Jennifer from Juniper j. Photography.
And I look forward to many more “catchups” in the years to come.
Enjoy some of the recent promo shots I caught of her while we "took a walk"!
Jennifer now resides in Santa Clarita, CA so if in the area be sure to book a session with her, as I promise you will not be disappointed. Check her out at juniperj.com
